Life is about experience, and experience is the greatest teacher.
I had a growing corporate career and outside looking in, a pretty great life. What people didn’t see was that I was having chronic panic attacks, seeing a chiropractor several times per week, and needed a ton of coffee to get going in the morning and several glasses of wine to turn off at night. Desperately attempting to be an idealized version of myself, I felt trapped, joyless, and powerless. I was lived a life that I had created, but hated. Changes were necessary, so I made them.
A few years later, after I had taught a yoga class, a woman shared that she was inspired by some of the things I said. “We just had a major management change where I work, and my team would really benefit from what you have to say. Do you do speaking engagements?”
That question launched the next chapter of my life.
For over fifteen years, I have been a corporate wellness speaker. I am also a writer, performer (stand-up comedy, improv, and community theatre,) and yes, I still teach yoga! I have spoken on topics like stress management and embracing change for audiences ranging from health care professionals to executives at offices, hospitals, and conference halls. My writing has been published in The Globe and Mail, and was longlisted for the 2020 CBC Nonfiction Prize. I’m currently working on a manuscript that does a deep dive into a very important subject, and one I’m quite passionate about. I’ll provide more details soon.
